PCI stands for the payment card industry. PCI compliance refers to the payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) and is the process by which information is stored and assembled by the PCI Security Standards Council. PCI standards were created for the payment card industry in a bid to help organizations avoid credit card fraud and process card payments securely. PCI compliance is related to all companies who store of process credit/debit card holder information. To gain PCI compliance an organization must gain accreditation from a qualified security assessor (QSA).
